Program Information

The World Cultures and Dance Program is a pilot program for PSU,
focused especially on the dance and culture of the African Diaspora in the Americas.
We offer classroom courses, dance classes, and percussion classes through the Humanities Department.

2007-8 WORLD CULTURES AND DANCE CLASSES CANCELLED!!!

The World Cultures and Dance program regrets to inform you that our program has been cancelled effective Fall 2007 due to unforeseen institution-wide budget cuts. We are working to raise funds and collaborate with community partners and other higher learning institutions in the hopes of restoring this vital community program in some capacity in the future.

This includes the following courses which had been scheduled for Fall 2007:

HUM 399 Afro-Cuban Percussion
HUM 399 Afro-Cuban Folkloric dance
HUM 399 Latin Popular Dance
HUM 399 History and Social Significance of Salsa

Portland State University offers many other rich dance and music opportunities through its World Dance student organization, new Theater Arts dance minor and the Music Department, as well as multiple departments and colleges that offer students the opportunity to pursue their cultural interests through regular courses and by-arrangement experiences. There are also many opportunities within the local, regional, and international communities.

Prices below are for the academic year only.
Summer terms are shorter and therefore
have different pricing. Please see individual
dance flyers (linked to class title) for summer
pricing.
Purchase "PSU Dance Cards."
Cost is $45 for 5, 1.5 hour sessions,
or $80 for 10 sessions. The dance
cards can be used in any of the HUM
dance classes.
Pay cash for an entire class--$140
for the 2 credit courses and $280
for the 4 credit course.

Cards can be purchased from Mary King,
in 241-H Cramer Hall, or from the dance
teachers.

Checks should be made out to PSU,
with a note in the corner that they
are for the World Cultures and Dance Program.

We are planning short, 10-14 day-study abroad
